I know the term superfoods may seem a little cliche to you. But there is a reason they have been given this term. They are so incredibly super for your health.
From relieving constipation to providing nutrients in high quantities that aren’t found in many other foods, to banishing dreaded bloat. Seriously I could go on for days but I made a video breaking them all down for you.
These are staples in my home and I encourage you to make them staples in yours too. I’m going to tell you about 6 superfoods every military spouse needs to lose weight.
You do not have to buy them all by any means, but pick one or two that you’d be interested in trying. You can add superfoods to your smoothies, soups, or salads.
Make sure to watch the video because I show you everything, tell you health benefits and my favorite ways to use them.
Do you really need them?
I am walking the walk in this video.
I am trying out some new tech and this is WAY outside of my comfort zone.
This may be exactly how you feel when it comes to new foods or a healthy lifestyle.
Tech and tech issues are extremely intimidating to me.
I tried to back out of creating this video about 7 times because this new platform is something I haven’t ever used before. But I knew it would be super useful for someone out there. Possibly you. So I pushed past the fear of failing or embarrassment. I choose to do it and not worry about perfection. I knew the benefits would outweigh the struggles.
Exactly like starting a healthy lifestyle when it feels completely foreign.
It may feel overwhelming and totally intimidating.
Like navigating unchartered territory.
But the benefits will far outweigh the struggles.
The more you wade in, the more comfortable and familiar it begins to feel. Soon it becomes second nature. But you have to take the first steps. Even if they feel huge.
In this video, I break down 6 superfoods (nutritional powerhouses) which I keep on hand. Why I love them and how I use them.
Start with 1. Then after a couple of weeks, add in another.
HERE ARE THE 6 SUPERFOODS EVERY MILITARY SPOUSE NEEDS TO KEEP ON HAND TO LOSE WEIGHT
Coconut oil is saturated fat, but it is a medium-chain fatty acid, which the body digests not as fat but as pure energy. Coconut oil will speed up your metabolism and also contains lauric acid, which is antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal. It also improves adrenal and thyroid health. Coconut oil is a terrific choice for frying, as it supports the high heat.
Sea vegetables are wonderful – rich in minerals and trace elements including calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, iodine, manganese, and chromium. They are also a natural way to support the adrenals and the thyroid.
Flax seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids and rich in alpha-linolenic acid(ALA). They also supply other nutrients such as manganese and magnesium and contain a lot of fiber(great for constipation issues). A top source of omega-3s, flax has been shown to lower the bad cholesterol while increasing the good cholesterol. They are loaded with Vitamin E and the B-complex vitamins. Add 1-2 tablespoons to a smoothie, salad, or add to your favorite protein ball. See how I added to this Overnight Steel Cut Oats.
Hemp seeds or hemp oil are loaded with aminos, vitamins, and minerals. Hemp seeds contain all the omega fatty acids you need for a healthy body: 3, 6, and 9. You only need 1 tablespoon per day to get your whole foods daily dose of omegas. With 5 grams of protein per tablespoon, hemp is also a great source of protein. *A note about hemp products: Service members are NOT supposed to use them. We won’t get into the outdated theories involved there, just don’t do it.
Chia seeds are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, plus manganese, calcium, and phosphorus. Just one ounce of chia seeds contains 11 grams of fiber, so they are wonderful for relieving constipation and improving heart health. Chia is at 825 on the ORAC scale (a measure of antioxidant capacity), which is the same ORAC level as broccoli. This powerful seed is known to support the elimination of toxins and bad cholesterol. Here is my all-time favorite chia pudding recipe. Click right here for Banana and Coconut Milk Chia Pudding recipe.
Bee pollen has 22 amino acids and is loaded with B vitamins, vitamin C, and vitamin E and also contains 35% protein and rutin, which prevents hemorrhoids.
Do you have any of these in your home? Let me know in the comment section. You can also share other superfoods you need me to try out.
